Book review 1
THE LOTTIE PROJECT
About the story:
The story is about a girl named Charlotte Alice Katherine Enright, but she was usually called Charlie. Her new form teacher, Mrs. Beckworth, refused to call her Charlie but Charlotte. She even forced Charlie to sit next to Jamie Edwards, the most revolting, stuck-up, horrible boy in the whole class. Mrs. Beckworth assigned the class to do a project on Victorian period. But the clever Charlie wasn’t easily beaten. And instead of writing a boring report, she created a diary for Lottie, a nursery maid.
But poor Charlie’s world was changing! Her mother, Josephine (whom Charlie called her Jo all the time) lost her job. (Charlie was a single-parent child.) Jo finally found three jobs. The first one was a job from the supermarket (a cleaning job), the second one was another cleaning job but it is in one of those posh Oxford Terrace (the Rosen family). And the third one was another cleaning (but babysitting job) in another terrace (not the Oxford Terrace). Jo was going to take care of a five year old boy, named Robin, and that little guy was really shy. He always carries a filthy clothed robin (doll) in his pocket.
And suddenly things went all wrong! Jo acted weirdly lately (putting makeup and dressing up without any reason). And Jo was very close to Robin’s father, Mark. Mark is a nice person and he offered to take Jo and Charlie to the Red River Theme Park that Charlie always wanted to go. Jo and Mark went on a ‘car’ ride and at that moment, they kissed. Charlie told little Robin that Mark will abandon him (she was actually just joking). But Robin was really afraid that what Charlie said might happen. Robin is a single-parent child too. (His mother abandoned him and went away with another guy.)
-Going further about Robin’s mother:
Actually, Robin’s mother wanted to take care of little Robin but that ‘another guy’ did not want Robin to stay with them.
Charlie made a few delicious cup cakes with nasty words on them for Jo, Mark and Robin. She gave the cakes to them when they were having a picnic. The one she gave to Jo was written there: traitor, Mark’s cup cake was written: deadly poison and Robin’s cup cake was written: get lost. And that very midnight, Mark called Jo and told her that Robin was lost! He searched the whole houses but there was not a sight of Robin to be seen. Charlie was indeed very sad and afraid at the same time, that Robin might be lost forever. After a long search of Robin, the police officers found him at the railway station. (What happened was that Robin had had a nightmare and wanted to find his mother (she lives faraway and only train can reach there), so Robin decided to take the train himself). But unfortunately, Robin got a touch on pneumonia because apparently, he’s been slightly asthmatic and he did get very chilled. He took antibiotics and rested for a long period before he recovered. Mark was actually angry of Charlie because she said something bad to Robin but after Robin’s recovery, Mark took Robin, Charlie and Jo to the beach and built lots of sandcastles (he forgave Charlie).
At last, Jamie and Charlie became friends when Charlie had to go to his house for the Victorian Project (Jamie had lots of books about Victorians in his ‘library’). Robin became one of Charlie’s best friends. Mark and Jo did not marry and everything was settled. Jo with Charlie and mark with Robin.
-My opinion:
I chose this book to recommend to my friends because this book is sort of exciting. It is all about Charlie and some other reasons is that I like to read books that are like character’s diary or about the character and I like to read fiction books. Although this story is not true, it is a story of Charlie. This is really a nice book (I can’t stop praising this book!). Wish that all of you will like this book! Thank You!
